SunCubes Launches PoC with RINA on Autonomous Drone Inspections

A Proof of Concept has started to explore more efficient and safer inspection processes through autonomous drone technologies

Genoa, June 2026 – SunCubes has launched a Proof of Concept with RINA, a multinational group active in inspection, certification, and engineering consultancy.

The collaboration has been formalized through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, which defines the scope of the joint activities. Zest Group supported the negotiation of the agreement and will be involved in the consulting process for the definition and structuring of the PoC.

The PoC is currently in its operational phase and marks the entry of SunCubes’ technology into RINA services, starting the validation process of the solution in operational contexts.

The initiative focuses on the use of drones in inspection scenarios where access is limited or operating conditions are critical. The objective is to assess alternative ways of collecting data, reducing the need for manual intervention.

The project will be structured in two phases. On June 2026, the first phase will focus on defining the use cases and designing the solution, with the involvement of RINA teams and the relevant application contexts. This will be followed, in autumn 2026, by field tests aimed at validating the solution in real-world scenarios.

“The launch of this PoC represents a concrete step for SunCubes,” said Alberto Chiozzi, CEO of SunCubes. “Working on real use cases allows us to engage directly with operational and application requirements.”
“This collaboration allows us to test new technologies in concrete application contexts, verifying their effectiveness and added value in the field,” added Daniele Calderoni Parronchi, Chief Strategy & Innovation Officer at RINA. “The objective is to assess their integration into our services and fully understand their impact on inspection activities in terms of quality, efficiency, and innovation.”

Through this project, SunCubes continues the development of Lucy, its solution for dynamic remote drone recharging, designed to enable the use of drones in inspection activities across hard-to-access environments.
