SunCubes Completes 600-Meter Laser Power Transmission Test at Leonardo Venegono
SunCubes successfully completed a 600-meter static optical power transmission test at Leonardo’s Venegono facilities, following an earlier campaign validating pointing over the same distance. The results marked an important step in the development of SunCubes’ optical control systems and toward dynamic beam control.
SunCubes successfully completed a new testing campaign at Leonardo’s facilities in Venegono, validating both long-distance pointing and optical power transmission in a static configuration.
During the first phase of the campaign, the team tested the ability of the system to accurately direct the optical beam toward a target positioned 600 meters away.
Following that initial validation, SunCubes returned to Venegono with a second objective: demonstrate energy transmission over the same distance.
After several days of testing, the team successfully transmitted optical power across 600 meters in a static configuration.
The campaign represented an important step in the development of the SunCubes control layer of optical power: the combination of pointing, alignment, control logic, safety, and system integration required to direct and manage laser energy over distance.
The results also established the basis for the next phase of development: moving from static configurations toward dynamic pointing, tracking, and optical power delivery to moving targets.
For SunCubes, the Venegono campaign was an important validation milestone in taking optical power systems from controlled development toward increasingly realistic operating conditions.
